- 21 FEBRUARY 2011
The idea of PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS Arts Festival has originated from the
ancient Papay tradition of The Night of The Gyros, which till the
beginning of 20s century was celebrated on the island in the first
full moon of February
PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS Arts Festival is set up to revive the old Papay
tradition, to establishing a working forum for creative discussions
and new works development, to broaden engagement with contemporary
art and to strengthen professional art practice
As our island is not very big in size and it can be difficult to accommodate
a big number of visitors - we do not want to create a big festival,
but the great one which will become a local event of international
significance, where wider audience will be reached through all around
the year programme and means of modern technology.
The programme of PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS is evolving during the year through
series of art residencies, commissions and curatorial research
PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS is an event exploring crossover and collaboration
between various art forms in the context of the Island and THE NIGHT
OF THE GYROS event |
